Beef Drop VE is a port of the classic arcade hit BurgerTime, originally adapted by Ken Siders for the Atari 5200 and 8-bit computers. This version for the Atari 7800 delivers an experience even closer to the arcade original, with enhanced graphics that surpass earlier releases—making Beef Drop VE the definitive version of the game.
 
The goal is simple: score as many points as possible by assembling hamburgers. Chef Pete must walk across each ingredient—buns, patties, lettuce, and more—to drop them down to lower platforms. Once all ingredients reach the tray at the bottom, a burger is completed. Finish all four burgers to advance to the next round.
 
However, the kitchen is anything but safe. Enemy characters—Frank, Mr. Yolk, and Dr. Dill—relentlessly pursue Chef Pete. If any of them catch him, he loses a life. Lose all your lives, and the game is over.
 
Fortunately, Pete has a way to fight back. By pressing either fire button, he can use pepper to temporarily stun his enemies, allowing him to escape. Pepper is limited, starting with just five uses, but can be replenished by collecting bonus items like ice cream, coffee, and french fries.
 
Unlike earlier versions, this VE release does not include the POKEY audio chip. Instead, it uses the Atari 7800’s built-in TIA sound hardware—just like most games in the system’s library.
