The world is on the brink of destruction. Deep within enemy territory, a missile launch countdown has begun, and only one tank stands between survival and global catastrophe.
 
In Failsafe, you command an armored tank on a dangerous mission to stop the launch before it is too late. Your objective is twofold: locate the four-digit hexadecimal launch code, then reach the missile silo and enter the code before impact. The code is made up of four digits using 0–9 and A–F.
 
Each level challenges you to reach the far end of enemy territory. During the first five levels, contact the depot to receive one random position of the launch code. Be careful, though. You may receive the same code position more than once, so every mission is a race against both time and chance.
 
On the sixth level, you must reach the missile silo and enter the code as quickly as possible using the joystick. Press the controller button to submit your entry. Enter the correct code in time, and you save the day. Fail to stop the launch before impact, and the consequences will be catastrophic.
 
Enemy forces will do everything they can to stop you. Pillboxes rotate in place and fire when you enter their sights. Jeeps charge toward you while firing constantly. Cruise missiles lock onto your position and attempt to crash into your tank. Vertical stationary plants fire mainly up and down, making them especially dangerous to pass. Human fighters hide behind bunkers and attack from around corners, using their small size to avoid your fire.
 
Fuel is displayed at the bottom of the screen and slowly decreases as you advance. When your fuel runs out, your tank is destroyed. The top-left corner shows your remaining tanks, while the top-right corner displays the current level.
 
Break through enemy defenses, recover the launch code, and stop the missile before it is too late.
