Lightly used game. Tested on an Atari CX2600, 2600+ and 7800+.
One of Starpath’s more original releases, Rabbit Transit plays like an unusual blend of Frogger and Q*bert. That may sound like an odd pairing, but the combination works surprisingly well. In fact, Rabbit Transit is so enjoyable that Atari may have even considered licensing it themselves.
As the title suggests, you play as a rabbit on a mission to rescue his girl, who has been carried off to the Land of the Ledges by mysterious evil forces. Before you can reach her, you must first cross the Mysterious Meadow and meet up with your turtle friend. Unfortunately, the meadow is filled with enemies eager to take a bite out of your tail. Since you are only a rabbit, your best defense is speed. You must hop from lane to lane, Frogger-style, until you reach the water.
You can jump through the flowers, but fences will block your path, forcing you to pass through the small openings. Depending on the difficulty switch settings, the turtle may occasionally dive beneath the water, so timing your jump is important. As the levels progress, additional hazards appear, including snakes and even more fences.
Once you arrive in the Land of the Ledges, the game shifts gears. Now you must quickly hop across the ledges and change each one from green to the color shown in the square at the top of the screen, much like Q*bert. Making things harder is a small character at the top of the screen who looks suspiciously like Pitfall Harry, dropping rocks down on you. Why, Harry? Why? These rocks are deadly, and in later rounds they can even change ledges back to their original color, undoing your hard work. The difficulty switches once again affect whether the turtle can dive below the water.
If you manage to change all the ledges, you are treated to a charming intermission showing the “fruits of your labor.” Each time you clear the Land of the Ledges, more and more bunnies appear on the intermission screen, giving you a cute little reward for your efforts.
