Lightly used game.  Thwocker works on the Atari 2600+ and 7800+ systems...will NOT work on an original 2600.  This is an unreleased prototype and is playable but only approximately 80% finished.  See the AtariProtos website for more information about this game.

Thwocker is every bit as unusual as its name suggests. Developed by Charlie Heath (best known for Reactor), the game has often been described as “Joust with musical instruments”—a fitting comparison, though it only scratches the surface of its unique gameplay.

You take control of a peculiar little conductor—resembling a bouncing bowling ball—tasked with navigating a maze while collecting musical notes to complete a song. However, not all notes can be collected freely; they must be gathered in the correct sequence, indicated at the bottom of the screen. Touching the wrong note will cause you to ricochet wildly, often sending you straight into one of the roaming enemy instruments.

Once all the correct notes have been collected, you must reach the treble clef at the top of the maze to begin the song. During this phase, your conductor gains temporary invincibility, allowing you to safely collide with enemies and notes for bonus points—similar to a power-up effect. After the song concludes, you can exit the level by reaching the designated exit square.

Movement in Thwocker is physics-driven and takes some practice to master. The maze behaves like a springy surface, causing your character to bounce continuously. You can control the height of your jumps by using the joystick: pressing down results in shorter hops, while pressing up at the moment of impact launches you into higher bounces. The fire button halts bouncing altogether, allowing your character to “skip” across the surface. Mastering these mechanics is essential for progressing through the increasingly challenging levels.
