MARIO BROS. ARCADE – ATARI 7800

The classic Mario Bros. gets an arcade-inspired graphical makeover on the Atari 7800!

Mario Bros. Arcade is an enhancement of the original Atari 7800 version of Mario Bros., designed to give the game a more polished appearance while bringing several of its graphics closer to Nintendo's original 1983 arcade game. The familiar gameplay remains essentially unchanged, but numerous visual improvements give this version a fresh and more arcade-authentic look.

Take control of Mario—or team up with Luigi in two-player action—as you battle creatures emerging from the pipes beneath the city. Strike the platforms from below to knock enemies off their feet, then quickly kick them away before they recover. Clear each phase to advance while avoiding fireballs, slippery floors, and increasingly aggressive enemies.

One of the most noticeable improvements is the redesigned enemy artwork. Shellcreepers, Sidesteppers, Fighterflies, and Slipice have been redrawn to more closely resemble their arcade counterparts. Mario and Luigi have also received color adjustments, helping the two characters stand out more clearly on screen.

Additional graphical refinements can be found throughout the game. The red in the Mario Bros. title screen logo has been brightened, coins now feature added shading, the fireballs have been enlarged, and the floor has been brightened by one shade. These subtle changes combine with the redesigned enemy sprites to create a cleaner and more colorful presentation without altering the classic gameplay.

Mario Bros. Arcade is a great choice for Atari 7800 fans who enjoy the original release but want a more refined and arcade-inspired version of this classic Nintendo game.
